An RWB survey of 18,000 workers in various companies found that RWBs are more productive, and in the new economy, RWBs are rife with opportunities and challenges. And while telecommuting is already a reality for many digital marketers, there will be significant changes in the future without an office, such as mentoring, employee development and collaboration. The move to telecommuting will change the lives of marketers and tech workers in subtle and dramatic ways. For example, a large Stanford behavioral study published in 2017 found that RWC workers are significantly more productive than office workers. Interestingly, the difference between cases of burnout and those looking for a new job is nearly 30 percent, meaning that many people burn out but can’t handle it if they are looking for work. WFH can have a significant impact on commercial real estate, urban planning, local retail and restaurants, and many other aspects of American society and business, including marketing. In a recent survey of more than 16,000 workers who work from home on Fishbowl’s professional social network, nearly 69 percent said they have experienced burnout from working from home. Workers in the technology and advertising industries are more likely to work offshore than their counterparts in other industries. In fact, many workers reported working longer hours during the pandemic than before it began.
