Of the consumers who have read the analysis, 97% have read the companies’ responses to the analysis, so it is more important than ever for local companies to monitor their reputation on each analytical page and respond quickly and professionally to any feedback. The Local Consumer Assessment Study explores trends in online assessments of local businesses over the past year. This year 82% of respondents have read the online survey of local businesses, compared to 86% last year. Online analysis of local businesses is rapidly becoming the norm for many consumers, but we have identified some very interesting trends for 2019. Consumers who do not read the online analysis were not asked about their assessment behavior to better understand those who use assessments when making purchase decisions. The gap has narrowed this year as this younger age group is less likely to search the Internet for local companies and read their opinions. Many assessment sites allow users to leave their assessments without text, and there is no procedure to ensure that they are consumers who have legally met with the company.
