Whether you’re considering hiring more remote employees in your organization or have been hired for a remote position, it’s important to know what skills are required for teleworking and how you can train your employees to become better employees at home. A survey conducted by Global Workplace Analytics and FlexJobs shows that teleworking has increased by 91% in the last 10 years. Sometimes people believe that telework is synonymous with digital nomadism. The majority of TalentLMS respondents chose communication as the most important skill that potential remote employees should master. Some people work better in collaborative environments and enjoy the structure of an office from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., while others prefer solitude and feel more productive working from home. According to a 2018 Buffer survey, 16% of employees say they are distracted from work at home. Remote employees are similar to on-site employees who work a “normal” schedule of 9 to 17 days. When asked which tools they use the most, 27% of remote employees responded with Skype, 14% with Dropbox, and 25% with WhatsApp and Google Hangouts.
